Transport Minister supports reduced speed limits in housing estates.

The Transport Minister has paid tribute to a Kilkenny family who have been campaigning to have speed limits reduced in housing estates after their 6 year old son was killed after being struck by a car.

Paschal Donohue last night said he was supporting a Sinn Fein Bill allowing for a 20 kilometres per hour speed limit in certain residential areas.

Minister Donohue suggested a pilot scheme to review the practicalities of reducing speed limits in some areas – and says it will be at the discretion of local authorities.

Jake Brennan’s family and friends have been holding a vigil outside the Dail since Sunday last highlighting their campaign for reduced speed limits.
