Strong criticism of the efforts being made to attract new business to Tipperary.

In particular concern has been expressed about the apparent lack of interest in the Lisheen Mine site in mid-Tipp which is due to close within 12 months.

Since the Beet Ireland plans for Lisheen failed, it’s claimed no deputation has been brought to the site.

Councillor John Hogan says not enough is being done to promote what is one of the most strategically important sites in the country with good roads infrastructure, electricity and water supply.

The Moyne based councillor recently took it upon himself to see if he could attract interest in Lisheen.

He says one phone call by him resulted in a company visiting Lisheen – this leads him to wonder what the IDA and the County Council have been doing to attract a replacement industry when the mine closes.
