Need for financial backing for Tipp post offices highlighted

The deep crisis facing Ireland's postal system was up for discussion this week at the Dáil’s Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment.

Radical changes including the proposed closure of 80 post offices and significant hike in the cost of the services the network provides were among the issues discussed.

An Post chiefs said the government didn't necessary have to pay for a universal service but Tipperary Independent TD Michael Lowry says somebody has to.
