Group rejects Waterford cardiac care report

Consultants from the south east say they completely reject the findings of a report into cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford.

The consultants group in the South East – which represent medical professionals from Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford – said the report makes incorrect assumptions that underpin the recommendations.

They also say they wish the issue hadn't become politicised by Minister of State John Halligan.

The Junior Minister is embroiled in a row with the Government over the issue and has threatened to resign if services aren't stepped up.

Meanwhile a consultant at University Hospital Waterford says South Tipperary and the South East of the Country as a whole is uniquely disadvantaged when it comes to cardiac care.

Dr Rob Landers has criticised the clinical review which suggests that another cath lab isn't needed at U.H.W.

The Health Minister Simon Harris says he won't deviate from the report's recommendations – but Dr Landers is adamant they're wrong.
