Escalation plan activated at UL hospital group.

Senior officials at the UL group of hospitals, which includes Nenagh General, have enacted an escalation plan to deal with extra patients waiting on trolleys.

There's been a huge spike in the amount of people presenting to the region's emergency departments today.

There are 55 people waiting for a bed in Dooradoyle, the highest figure in the country, while at South Tipp General in Clonmel, 23 patients are on trolleys.

The UL Group of Hospitals has implemented its escalation plan to deal with the increase.

This includes moving patients from Dooradoyle to Nenagh General Hospital and cancelling all non urgent, elective surgery for the day.
