Association makes proposals over hospital beds

The Private Hospitals Association, which represents 19 facilities around the country, wants a joint public and private sector initiative to tackle waiting lists in public hospitals.

The proposal comes as hospitals serving Tipperary have 54 patients waiting for a hospital bed today.

South Tipp General in Clonmel currently has 24 people on trolleys or chairs while University Hospital Limerick – which serves North Tipperary – has 30 patients who have been admitted from the Emergency Department still waiting for a bed.

The Limerick figures are the highest in the country today while nationally the INMO report 305 patients without a bed.

The Private Hospitals Association has published 6 proposals which it believes would help to take pressure off the public health service.
