Today’s trolley figures released

The INMO says 10 of these are at South Tipp General in Clonmel.

University Hospital Limerick – which caters for North Tipperary – has 25 patients on trolleys or chairs which is the second highest figure in the country.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is the most overcrowded with 26 people waiting for a bed.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation there are 257 people on hospital chairs and trolleys across the country today.

Meanwhile, new HSE figures reveal up to 50,000 patients are leaving our A and E departments without treatment, because they can't face the long waiting times and overcrowded conditions.

The Irish independent has also discovered that hospitals with the worst overcrowding, have some of the highest walk out rates.

Dr Mark Doyle is the President of the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine and a consultant at Waterford University Hospital.

He says at 4% – our walkout rate is still considered safe by international standards.
