Tipperary solicitor says landmark case against hip manufacturer is tip of the iceberg

67 year old John Heeney had taken the action against DePuy International Limited and the HSE over the hip he received in 2008 which had to be replaced two years later.

The case began in the High Court yesterday, but following talks the court was told the matter had been settled and could be struck out with an order for costs.

It is the first time a case against the company has opened in Ireland or Europe – there have only been four such trials worldwide.

Cian O'Carroll – who represents Mr Heeney – says there over one thousands such actions in the pipeline.
