Tipp TD speaks on NAMA inquiry proceeding

A Tipperary TD says the Government would not be proceeding with an investigation into NAMA's sale of its Northern Portfolio without pressure from Independent ministers.

The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, published yesterday, revealed the taxpayer missed out on a potential 220 million Euro when NAMA sold its Northern Portfolio.

There were 850 properties in the deal sold to the US vulture fund Cerberus, for a price tag of 1.6 billion two years ago.

Deputy Mattie McGrath says without the independent members of Cabinet there would be no further investigation.

Meanwhile the Government has been accused of being indifferent to the millions on euro that NAMA missed out on, when it sold Project Eagle.

Mick Wallace claims politicians haven't bothered to find out why the sale of the loans in the North didn't get as good a deal as possible.

He claims that taxpayers are now paying the price.

The Taoiseach will meet with opposition leaders this afternoon to discuss the sale of NAMA's Northern portfolio.
