Tipp GRA members to hold meeting on morale

Members of the Garda Representative Association in the Tipperary Division are set to meet in Clonmel as part of a nationwide campaign by the group to get opinions of officers on the ground on what's affecting them.

With a starting pay of €23,000 for new recruits passing out from Templemore, Gardaí say it is impossible for them to survive.

This is just one of the issues which are leading to a drop in morale within the force among rank and file Gardaí.

GRA rep for the Tipperary Division Tom Finnan says new members of the force just cannot afford day to day living.

Members of the Garda Representative Association within the Tipperary Division will gather at the Clonmel Park Hotel this evening as part of an overall strategy by the association to get the opinions of officers on the ground on what's affecting them.

Speaking on Tipp Today Tom Finnan said the number of new Gardaí going through the training college in Templemore needs to increase considerably.

He told Fran Curry that the force is losing contact with the community they are supposed to serve.

Gardaí are signed up to the Haddington Road Agreement until the end of June.

Tom Finnan says rank and file members of the force are now in the process of deciding what steps to take to ensure their pay is brought back up to pre-austerity levels.
