Tenders for the project on an 8 and a half acres of land adjoining the Source are in and its hoped a contractor could be on site by the end of the year.
The long awaited development will include a children's playground, an outdoor exercise area, a skateboard park, walkways, seating and a pedestrian bridge.
Local Councillor Seamus Hanafin says it will bring a huge positive for the entire town.
