South Tipp General fails to meet HSE targets for ambulance turnaround times

One in ten ambulances had to wait for more than an hour to discharge patients at the emergency department of South Tipp General Hospital in April.

The average waiting time to clear the emergency department at the Clonmel facility was 34 minutes with just a quarter meeting the HSE target of 20 minute or less to hand over patients.

A report published by the National Ambulance Service shows that Cork University Hospital had the longest wait times – with 89 percent of ambulances delayed longer than 20 minutes.

Ambulance response times have been the subject of focus after a series of deaths involving people who had to wait for ambulances.
