Shannon Airport described as key to the future development of Tipperary.

The importance of Aer Lingus and Shannon Airport to Tipperary has been driven home to the Transport Minister.

Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council Michael Fitzgerald was part of a delegation to meet with Minister Paschal Donohue in Dublin yesterday.

It included representatives from the six counties in the Mid-West and West which would be directly affected by any impact on Shannon the sale of Aer Lingus would have.

Councillor Fitzgerald says the meeting was productive as it gave the minister a view of the importance of both Aer Lingus and Shannon to the economy of the region.

He described the airport as key to the future development of Tipperary given that the economic plan for the county is focused on tourism development, the retention & expansion of existing enterprise as well as the development of new enterprise.
