But Alan Kurdi's father has told a German newspaper he feels European leaders have forgotten Syria – and says nothing has changed for refugees.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice here says the target to take in 4000 refugees has not changed, and blames delays in Italy and Greece for the slow pace of resettlements from there.
