No decisions made by Intel after announcement of job cuts

The American chipmaker – one of Ireland's largest employers – has announced a restructuring programme aimed at making it less dependent on the personal computing market.

There are currently over 4,500 people employed at its R&D facility in Leixlip in county Kildare – that plant focuses mainly on advanced technologies.

In a statement this morning Intel Ireland says it can't provide site specific information as of yet – but that the global job losses are expected to come in the form of voluntary and involuntary departures between now and mid 2017.
