New scheme recommended for third level funding

Former Union leader Peter Cassells is recommending a 'study now – pay later' scheme to allow students defer fee payment until after graduation.

Under the new system fees could rise to as much as 5000 euro per annum, but repayments would only start once graduate incomes reach a certain level.

The current third level funding structure reportedly needs drastic reform to cope with a surge in population.

Former President of DCU Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski says things need to change.
