New report recommends student fees to fund 3rd level

A new report is recommending that 3rd level goers should be charged up to 5 thousand euro each per year.

The Cassells report – due out this morning- is suggesting its one of three ways to pump much needed funds into the education sector.

The options being considered are a state funded system with fees being scrapped, a boosted state funded system with fees or a loans scheme which would see students paying 5 thousand a year.

The loans could be repaid by graduates once they hit a certain income level, but there are warnings they could saddle former students with debts of 20-thousand Euro long-term.
