Fine Gael's Phyl Bugler was elected unopposed at the council's annual meeting this morning and will hold the seat for the next 12 months.
Independent Clr Michael O'Meara has been elected as Leas Cathaoirleach.

It had been thought that those opposed to the pact system under which Clr Bugler was elected would have put forward a counter motion calling for the use of the DHondt system.
However Sinn Fein's Seamie Morris who has been very vocal on this said he ceded to the election as local council work well as a team
