Murphy: Jobstown decision ‘attack on the right to protest’

It emerged last night that more than 20 demonstrators are to be charged with criminal offences over a protest in Tallaght last year, during which the Tánaiste was trapped in her car for over two hours.

Joan Burton is expected to be called as a witness in the trials of some of the protestors, including Anti Austerity Alliance TD, Paul Murphy.

Founding member of Right to Water Seamus Healy claims the charges are an indication of how the matters are being politicised and feels they will only add to the chaos that he says Irish Water now is.

Deputy Healy also agreed with fellow TD Paul Murphy’s comments that the charges are an attack on the right to protest, will only strengthen people's opposition to the water charges and he's expecting more people to attend a national demonstration on the issue in Dublin at the end of this month.
