The Upperchurch native led the Premier County to All Ireland glory last year.
President of the Tipperary Association Dublin Liam Myles says ultimately it was a relatively easy decision for them to make and all the indicators were pointing the one way.
Mr Myles said 2016 was such a fantastic year and Michael Ryan did so well in leading the Senior Hurlers and whatever he brought with him got them over the line and brought back the Liam McCarthy to Tipperary
