McGrath rejects Varadkar rebuke

The Disabilities Minister said he strongly disagreed with comments made by Minister Leo Varadkar over the weekend.

The Social Protection Minister said that Independents had destabilised the Government and damaged their own brand by taking a free vote on the bill on fatal foetal abnormalities. 

But Finian McGrath said the Government needed to avoid unnecessary distractions and get on with the job at hand.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael TD Pat Deering is calling on Enda Kenny to clarify his leadership position at Wednesday's parliamentary party meeting.

Reports in yesterday's newspapers suggested that some party members may file a motion of no confidence in the Taoiseach following a difficult week and gains for Fianna Fáil in recent opinion polls.
