Lough Derg RNLI rescue 9 people from stricken cruiser

They were requested to launch by Valentia Coastguard at 1.45pm following an appeal for assistance for help from the people on the stricken 40 foot vessel.

The lifeboat, with helm Eleanor Hooker, Dom Sharkey and Owen Cavanagh on board, located the boat at around ten past two inside the Moutaineer navigation mark by Ryan's Point.

All 9 people on board were unharmed but had to be transferred to Dromineer by the RNLI crew as the cruiser was stuck fast.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Liam Maloney is urging all boat users to 'stay within the navigation channels on the lake, and to study your charts before setting out from port'.
