Lough Derg RNLI crew assist stricken cruiser

The call came in around 10 to 6 from Valentia Coastguard for the lifeboat to go to the aid of two people on board the boat.

The lifeboat was launched at 6 o'clock yesterday evening with three members of the Lough Derg RNLI on board.

They were sent to the aid of two people on board a 30 foot cruiser that had ran aground on the west side of the Corakeen Islands, near Dromineer Bay.

The lifeboat found the cruiser, a local fisherman, who had raised the alarm, had stayed alongside it to reassure the two people onboard as neither of them spoke any English

A crew member waded through the shallow waters, once he boarded, an inspection was carried out which found the cruiser was not taking on water.

It was then taken off the rocks and towed into safe water, a member of the crew stayed on board and the cruiser was safely docked in Dromineer Harbour at 10 to 7.
