Local aviation expert asks if Rescue 116 crew knew about nav system issues

Local aviation expert Bernie Goldbach says the crew of Rescue 116 may have known their navigation systems weren’t correct.

A report into the Coast Guard helicopter crash claims there were problems with navigational equipment onboard.

Four crew members died when Rescue 116 went down last month near Blackrock Island off the Mayo coast – but their warning system didn’t have information on the island or the lighthouse on it.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit have been examining data from the blackbox flight recorder.

LIT Clonmel lecturer and former Air Accident investigator Bernie says It’s not clear yet if the crew knew there were issues with the equipement.
