Large drop in Live Reg in Tipperary

The number of people signing on the Live Register in Tipperary fell by almost 11% last month.

Latest figures from the CSO show there are just over 11,600 signing on at Social Welfare offices across the county.

There's been a drop of 1,433 in the number of people on the Live Register in County Tipperary from August to September.

According to the Central Statistics Office figures there are 11,611 signing on at the county's eight social welfare offices.

Just over 6,300 of these are in South Tipp with nearly 5,300 in the north of the county.

The biggest reduction percentage wise was in Clonmel with a 14% drop from 2,282 in August to 1,964 last month.

All of the social welfare offices recorded a reduction in the numbers on the Live Register.

Thurles has the most people signing on in the Premier County with 2,247 claiming some form of social welfare payment.

Those on the Register include people on Jobseekers Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance and part-time workers.

Year on year there has been a reduction of 1,529 in the number of people on the Live Register in County Tipperary.
