Human remains found in France connected to Troubles

A team in France, searching for one of the so-called “Disappeared” victims of the Northern Ireland Troubles, have found human remains.

Seamus Ruddy was working in Paris as a teacher when he was abducted over thirty years ago.

In 1985 Sheamus Ruddy a school teacher from county Down disappeared in France.

It’s believed he was abducted from Paris, murdered and secretly buried by the INLA.

As part of the work of the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims Remains a ground search got underway near the French city of Rouen earlier this week.

A spokesperson has confirmed they located human remains in a forest this morning however the body has yet to be formally identified.

Due to the sensitive nature of the operation it’s expected to be some time before authorities can remove the body from the scene and carry out a post mortem examination.

Including Sheamus Ruddy four members of the disappeared remain missing.
