Hayes says Ireland can survive fallout from BSE case

Tests are being carried out on the dairy cow with the results expected to confirm the first case of Mad Cow disease here since 2013.

Results should be known by this time next week – and the inquiries will focus on the use of banned meat and bonemeal feed – and whether the cows imported mother also carried the disease.

Minister Tom Hayes says Ireland has one of the most stringent animal health regimes in the world.

He claims this will stand to us when it comes to reassuring customers at home and abroad.
