Gardaí target motorbikes for road safety appeal

The Road Safety Authority and Gardaí are placing a special emphasis on motorbike safety this bank holiday weekend following a rise in the number of motorcycle fatalities so far this year.

Drivers are being urged to constantly be on the lookout for motorcyclists, in their blind spots, at junctions and especially when turning right while motorcyclists are asked to be extremely careful when overtaking, negotiating bends and to be particularly mindful of their speed.

Garda Niamh Dooley of the Cahir Traffic Corps says there is a responsibility on both drivers and other road users to be on the lookout for motorbikes.
