Fears of economic hit for Roscrea with Cistercian closure

The warning comes ahead of a public meeting tomorrow night of parents of pupils along with former students at the iconic boarding school in response to the decision to close it down.

The college says it’s been forced to take the action due to falling numbers and that the lack of viable alternatives.

However local Fianna Fail councillor Michael Smith rejects this – and feels allowing it to shut will have a major impact on the wider local economy
