Dail to be recalled to discuss UK exit from EU

Speaking following an emergency cabinet meeting Enda Kenny said the Government has prepared for this eventuality.

He says there will be a number of key actions and the government will work to protect and advance this country's interests.

The Dáil’s is being recalled on Monday for a special meeting to discuss BREXIT – while the opposition will be briefed this afternoon on the Government's plans. 

Mr Kenny says he wants to reassure the public that contingency measures are in place.

The de-facto leader of the leave campaign Boris Johnson says the BREXIT vote provides – a glorious opportunity for the UK. 

However Mr Johnson says the decision doesn't mean the country will turn its back on the European Union. 

He says the EU is simply no longer relevant to the needs of Europe.

The vote has raised questions about the future of the United Kingdom.

Overall, Wales and parts of England voted to leave, with London, Scotland and Northern Ireland choosing to stay in.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says the option of a second referendum on Scottish Independence is now on the table.

In Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuiness says this strengthens the call for a border poll on a united Ireland. 

And he denied they were being opportunistic: 

However speaking on Tipp Today – Former South Tipperary TD Dr Martin Mansergh who was heavily involved in the Peace Process in Northern Ireland says now is not the time to try and push for a united Ireland.
