Tipperary County Council's Director of Housing is confident the €2.2 billion budget allocation for a new social housing programme will enable new homes to be built now.

The investment will go into the construction of 10 thousand new badly needed units right across the country over a three year period.

Recent figures show a huge demand for social housing across the Premier County with over 2,500 families on a waiting list.

Director of Services for Housing Clare Curley says while they don't know yet how much of the money will be earmarked for Tipp it is hugely positive.

She says once the money is allocated the council will hit the ground running in terms of getting houses built in a return on existing landbanks.
