Clonmel residents protest at installation of water meters

Dozens of residents at several Clonmel estates are attempting to blockade efforts by Irish Water to install water meters outside their homes today.

Up to fifty people from Boherduff Heights, Boherduff Close and Northview Close have been out protesting at the housing development off the Fethard Road since 7 am.

Some of them have been standing virtually in front of a rock breaker on one of the paths outside their homes in an effort to prevent the installation of water meters these residents were adamant they were going nowhere.

Crews tasked with the job moved on site early this morning – but their work was stalled from early on as people took to the streets in the three estates to voice their opposition to Irish Water.

Gardai attended the scene for a short time but have since left and those participating in the demonstration insist they are not breaking the law but engaging in a slow blockade to try and halt work.
