Changes to water charges expected in tomorrow’s Budget

But Paschal Donohoe's refusing to confirm any of the speculation – that a cut in income tax, changes to the Universal Social Charge or tax relief on water charges will be announced tomorrow.

Speaking today, he insisted the Government will be prudent, not jeopardise the recovery, but will give something back.

Meanwhile, the organisers of the weekend demonstration against water charges says it has rattled the Government.

It’s estimated that up around 50 thousand people took part in the march through Dublin city centre on Saturday.

More protests are planned to take place around the country on November 1st – as part of the campaign of opposition.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett says the reports that exemptions and reliefs will be announced in tomorrow's Budget – show the Government is backpedalling.

“I think the government are absolutely shaking in their boots, after what happened at the weekend” he said.

“The massive mobilisation we saw on the streets of Dublin and the impact of two by-elections”.

“I think they are very seriously rattled and they're backpedaling, but they're not backpedaling enough”.

“What people out on the streets are saying is we want water charges abolished” he added.
