Call for Tánaiste to row back on lone parent changes

From July single parents whose youngest child has reached the age of seven will be changed from the Lone Parent Family Payment to the Transition Job Seekers Allowance.

Joan Burton had promised in 2012 that such a move would not be made unless affordable childcare has been introduced by the Government.

It's claimed this would see some families in Tipperary a cut of up to €90 a week.

Independent TD Seamus Healy says Tipperary's Labour members in the Oireachtas – Minister Alan Kelly and Senator Denis Landy – need to push Joan Burton not to go ahead with the move until proper.
