Call for more efforts to tackle Tipperary sulkey racing.

The newly elected Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council says the local authority needs to work with Gardai in a bid to tackle the number of horses being killed and injured while racing on the roads.

His comments come in the wake of another incident over the weekend when a horse pulling a sulkey was alleged to have injured in Tipperary Town .

It is said to have struck a fence and was abandoned by the driver.

Cathaoirleach Michael Fitzgerald says every effort should be made to prevent further incidents.

For her part Pat Edwards of the Deise Animal Sanctuary near Clonmel feels there is a need to stop young children from being left in control of sulkeys on public roads.
