Members of the Borough District have passed a resolution to reduce the fees from €1.20 to 50 cent for the first half hour while motorists who feed the meter for an hour get another 30 minutes free.
This is on top of the 1st half hour free parking in the Mary Street car park while the Superquinn car park will have a daily fee of €3.50 with the aim of encouraging more shoppers into the South Tipp town.
While the measure was welcomed by all local Councillors some like Independent Martin Lonergan still feel it should be free at times.
