Ten of the dead are believed to have been militants disguised as police who launched the raid on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
The scene had been declared safe by Pakistan's military late last night after six hours of gunfire and explosions.
However the anti-terror operation has since been relaunched after more shots were fired.
