An escaped convict stabbed himself after being spotted by police in Belfast.

The 53-year-old was being taken to Tallaght hospital on Tuesday when he made his violent escape.

That sparked an international manhunt, but the serial criminal was seen outside a bar on the Dublin Road at half-seven last night.

Brockwell stabbed himself in the stomach when he was approached by police.

Officers tasered him, before he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Brockwell, who's serving seven years at Portlaoise jail for armed robberies in Dublin, was later arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
