14 councils revise down their Property Tax rates for next year

Six councils have chosen to reduce the tax by the maximum of 15 per cent, including Dublin City Council, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal, South Dublin, Clare and Wicklow County Councils.

The other eight local authorities reduced the property tax by 10 per cent or lower.

Tipperary County Council voted to retain the Property Tax rate at a recent meeting.

New figures from Revenue show 94 per cent of homeowners paid the tax this year, down from 95 per cent in 2013, and there were 400 referrals to the sheriff to collect the tax after non payment this year.

Revenue's Local Property Tax Project Manager, Vivienne Dempsey, says anyone whose council has lowered their rate doesn't need to take any action as it will be automatically adjusted.
