Visiting restrictions at Tipperary hospital

The move is due to the current high incidence of flu in the mid west region.

Meanwhile there are 50 patients on trolleys in hospitals serving Tipperary this afternoon.

In a bid to protect vulnerable patients the UL Hospitals Group is asking people who are considering visiting a friend or relative to ensure they do not do so if they have flu like symptoms.

The UL Hospitals Group has introduced a temporary restriction of one visitor per patient during the flu season and visitors are reminded that children under 14 are not allowed to visit.

Visitors to Nenagh or any of the UL group are asked to comply with infection control procedures, especially hand hygiene.

Meanwhile as the number of patients on hospital trolleys nationally has dropped today University Hospital Limerick is once again the busiest in the country.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation there are currently 43 people waiting for a bed at the Dooradoyle hospital having been admitted from the Emergency Department.

This is unchanged from yesterday and contributing significantly to the national figure of 388.

The nursing union report 7 patients awaiting admission at South Tipp General in Clonmel.
