The cost of disposing of bags of rubbish at a number of Tipperary civic amenity centres is set to rise by 25%.

The County Council say this is down to an increase in operating costs over in recent times.

As a result the cost of bringing a black bag of rubbish to the Council sites in Cashel, Donohill or Clonmel will go from 4 to 5 Euro from the start of May.

Dry recyclables will increase by 25 cent to 1 Euro while the cost of a roll of 5 recycling bags will go up from 1 Euro to 1.50.

The Council CEO Joe MacGrath told this months meeting of Tipperary County Council that he could not hold off any longer on the increase.

However many Councillors were unhappy with the move including Fine Gaels Michael Murphy who wanted Tipp charges bench-marked with other local authorities adding he wanted to delay any hike until more information could be sought but was informed it was an Executive council decision and therefore not within the members remit to stop it.
