Man due in court in connection with fatal hit & run near Glengoole

The death of Michael Stapleton on July 30th last shocked the local community around Glengoole.

The 68 year old was just metres from his home at Paynestown when he was killed.

The vehicle which struck him fled the scene.

Michael was found on the roadside – despite the best efforts of a passerby and ambulance personnel the pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Stapleton – who was a bachelor and lived alone – was well known in the local community.

His brother Eugene was killed in a motorcycle crash near the family home around 15 years ago.

A man in is 40’s – who’s understood to be from the area – is due to appear before Cashel District Court today charged in connection with the hit & run.
