Councillor defends Sinn Fein support of Norther Ireland property tax

A County Tipperary Sinn Fein Councillor has defended his party’s support for a property tax in Northern Ireland despite their opposition to the tax in the Republic.

Seamie Morris points out that the property tax in the six counties pays for what he describes as real local services – such as free school books, refuse collection, fire service call-outs and local government owned recreational facilities.

The Sinn Fein representative says if people were offered those services free here then there would be a better take up in north Tipperary where 38% of householders have not paid the controversial €100 charge.
