Woman gives birth soon after being rescued

A mother has given birth to a baby boy after a dramatic Mediterranean rescue.

The woman, called Cynthia, needed to be saved when her wooden boat began to sink on Saturday.

She was one of around 500 Libyan migrants taken on board an MSF vessel shortly before going into labour.

The charity says the newborn boy has been named Favour and “against all odds is beautifully healthy and doing well”.
