Wet and windy weekend in store for Tipperary as Met Eireann issue Yellow Alert

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow alert for the county with motorists being advised not to make any unnecessary journeys.

The National Co-ordination Group for Severe Weather Emergencies will meet this afternoon as 'Storm Desmond' prepares to hit.

Met Eireann’s Status Yellow wind warning for Tipperary is in place until 9 o'clock tomorrow night.

Southwest winds with mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h will gust to between 90 and 100km/h

A similar status warning has been issued for rain from midnight tonight until midnight on Saturday.

Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm are forecast for Tipperary with heavy rain tonight and all day tomorrow.

Even worse conditions are forecast for Connacht, Donegal, Kerry and Clare which will be hit by in excess of 70 millimetres of rain overnight and into tomorrow.

The Road Safety Authority is advising motorists to avoid all unnecessary journeys.

If you have to travel motorists should allow extra time for all journeys and to slow down – particularly in areas prone to flooding.
