Warning from mother over proposed location of children’s hospital

Planning permission was granted for the development last month despite objections from many groups and individuals that the location wasn't suitable due to the traffic congestion there.

The issue was raised at this week's meeting of Tipperary County Council where support was sought for a motion to oppose the Saint James site.

However some councillors expressed fears that to voice their opposition would delay the project further and instead supported an amended version of the motion put forward by Fianna Fail's Imelda Goldsboro.

Maggie Butler from Glengoole – whose son Alex has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, feels the campus of Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown would be a more appropriate site for the new children’s hospital.

Her son has to regularly make the trip to visit hospitals in Temple Street, Crumlin and Tallaght.

Speaking to Fran Curry on Tipp Today, Maggie explained how they have had to make the trip to Dublin in an emergency situation.
