Visitor restrictions will remain at STGH for the weekend

Visiting restrictions will remain in place at Tipperary’s main hospital throughout the weekend.

It follows an increase in the number of confirmed cases of the flu virus and a possible outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

South Tipp General Hospital is effectively on lockdown when it comes to visitors.

This is due to the number of patients who have presented with flu like symptoms, vomiting and diarrhea.

There are now 8 confirmed cases of the flu virus in the Clonmel hospital.

A number of patients are also displaying symptoms of the Norovirus or winter vomiting bug although this has not been confirmed.

Visiting to all wards at the hospital is prohibited, apart from exceptional circumstances, which includes critical care patients while maternity & gynae visiting is restricted to partners or a designated person only.

Parents and guardians will only be permitted to Children’s Ward.

People with flu like symptoms are advised to contact their GP by phone in the first instance and avoid presenting at the Emergency Department at STGH.

Cancer Services, Emergency Services and Outpatient Services will continue as normal.

Hospital management have told Tipp FM that the situation is being kept under daily review – however the visitor ban will continue until at least Monday.
