Unused Tipperary Town funding retained for South Tipp.

Road infrastructure in South Tipperary is in for a funding boost.

Over half a million euro feared lost after plans for a link road around Tipp Town were rejected will now be retained for other projects in the area.

Funds of over €530,000 euro had been secured from Central Government for the first of a three phased project to divert heavy traffic which has been choking the centre of Tipperary Town for a number of years now.

However – the plans for the Link Road section were met with fierce opposition by residents who claim they would have been adversely affected by the proposed alternative route and at last Monday’s Town Council meeting local representatives voted down the project.

The local authority had said it was likely the funding set aside would have to be returned to the government coffers and the future phase two and three had been thrown into doubt.

However following talks with officials in his Department Junior Transport Minister and Tipperary TD Alan Kelly says he has managed to retain the half a million Euro for the South Tipperary Region

It means that other projects in the pipeline can now proceed.
