Trolley-watch figures remain high across the country

The number of patients forced to wait on trolleys at hospitals serving Tipperary has fallen in the last 24 hours.

However there are still more than 500 people waiting for a hospital bed across the country today.

543 patients are on makeshift beds at hospitals across the country this lunchtime – the second day in a row the figure has passed the 500 mark.

However there's been a reduction of 12 on trolleys or overflow areas of wards at South Tipp General in Clonmel where there are 26 patients today.

The situation has also eased at University Hospital Limerick down from 44 to 29 since yesterday.

The worst affected is Cork University Hospital where there are 46 people who have been admitted from the Emergency Department without a bed today.

The Health Minister Simon Harris last week apologised for the problem, but has so far failed to bring the numbers down.
