Today’s hospital overcrowding numbers released

According to the latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation there are 40 patients who have been admitted to the hospital being cared for on trolleys or chairs.

This is the worst overcrowding in the country today according to the nursing union.

Of these 27 are being cared for in the Emergency Department at the Dooradoyle hospital while 13 are in overflow areas of wards.

In comparison the situation at South Tipp General in Clonmel is significantly better with the INMO reporting 5 patients being cared for on trolleys.

Nationally the figure stands at 278.
